Asahi Shimbun Cross-Search

"Asahi Shimbun Cross-Search for Library" from the Asahi Shimbun Company is an online article database that permits easy investigation of past events, and is available in many universities and libraries both in and outside Japan. It is the largest newspaper article database in Japan, permitting searches of 16 million articles and advertisements from more than 140 years of the newspaper, from its first edition in 1879 (Meiji 12) to today. It covers Full Text Database from 1985 to the present, Shukan Asahi, AERA.

BERITA - Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei/ASEAN Database

The Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei/ASEAN Database (BERITA), produced by the staff of the Southeast Asia Collection/Malaysian Resource Center, Ohio University, is a bibliographic database that indexes articles from published and unpublished material that concern Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, or South-East Asia as a whole (when the foci countries are included). Also included are materials regarding the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). It covers the period from 1990 to present.

Chinese Anti-Rightist Campaign Database (1957- )

The Anti-Rightist Campaign in 1957 was a nationwide mass political campaign launched by the Chinese Communist Party and its leader Mao Zedong after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. This database is a major historical archival project containing content drawn from libraries with Asian collections all over the world, and many items from private collectors. After sifting through millions of official and unofficial documents and meticulous editorial work, the editors are finally able to present a database with nearly ten thousand documents to the readers. The historical sources included in this database are limited to first-hand original written materials only. Some documents that came into being after the Anti-Rightist Campaign, but were closely connected to the Campaign, are also included. However, secondary sources such as memoirs and interviews are not included.

Chinese-Australian Historical Images in Australia

Catalogue of historical images of Chinese, Chinese immigrants and their Australian descendants. Includes photographic holdings of the Chinese Museum and other online archives, publications and private family collections. Built into the database is the beginnings of an encyclopaedia of Chinese-Australian history, complete with bibliography, which provides contextual information about the images in the database.

Chinese Film and Newsreel Scripts from the Cultural Revolution Online

This is a collection of film advertisements and transcripts of Chinese documentary films and newsreels that spans the years 1946 to 1985. The original items are held in the Chinese Filmscript and Advertisement Collection held by the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University. The bulk of the items are transcripts for the documentary films and newsreels from the Cultural Revolution, 1966-1976. All documents are in Chinese.

The Chinese Recorder Index is a comprehensive index to The Chinese Recorder (and Missionary Journal), with accompanying full text. The complete run of this journal has been indexed by person, subject and mission /organization. The search results can be filtered by subject, year or keyword providing an easily navigated research tool. All 75 volumes of The Chinese Recorder (and Missionary Journal) 1867-1941 have been digitised and are available within this database.

The six parts of this collection make available all British Foreign Office files dealing with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan between 1919 and 1980. INDBIO - Indian Biography Database

The Indian Biography Database (INDBIO), produced by the School of Politics, La Trobe University, Melbourne, is a database containing details of the members of India's lower-house (the Lok Sabha) of Parliament elected between 1977 and 1991. The database includes biographical information provided by the members of parliament, and includes death dates, references to obituary notices, and notes about recent events in legislators' careers.

Index Islamicus

The Index Islamicus database indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world. It is produced by an editorial team working at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, established to transmit knowledge about Islamic and Middle East studies, which have traditionally been part of the curriculum of SOAS. Records included in the database cover almost 100 years of publications on the world of Islam. Material cited in the Index Islamicus includes not only work written about the Middle East, but also about the other main Muslim areas of Asia and Africa, plus Muslim minorities elsewhere. Over 3,000 journals are monitored for inclusion in the database, together with conference proceedings, monographs, multi-authored works and book reviews. Journals and books are indexed down to the article and chapter level.

Named INTAN MAS (Bahasa Indonesia for diamond and gold) the title is also an acronym for its coverage: INTAN - Irian Jaya, Nusa Tenggara, AntarNegara MAS - Maluku, Sulawesi. It covers the period 1989 to May 2002.

Japan Times Archive : 1897-2016

The Japan Times Archive delivers over a century of news and history on world affairs, written in English, from a Japanese perspective. Every issue, published from March 1897 is searchable. The online search tools allow users to enter keywords to find articles or advertisements on specific topics, with the option to limit searches to publication dates, title, specific days of the week, type of publication (Main, Extra or Supplement) or by Imperial Period. The pages are reproduced in full with photos and illustrations.

Kikuzo II Visual for Libraries

Kikuzo II Visual is the online commercial database of the Asahi Shimbun, and contains the articles and the advertisements of the newspaper since its first issue in 1879. Content from 1985 to the present day is full text searchable. Earlier years are presented as image databases of the newspaper in reduced-size facsimile edition.

National Population Census of China

This database includes all published volumes of national, provincial, municipal and county level statistics from the 2010 census, and volumes from the 1982, 1990 and 2000 census. The data covers various topics, such as gender, age, nationality, household registration, education level, industry, marriage, fertility, migration, etc. The statistics are available as page images of the original print publications or as Excel files. The Chinese interface of NPCC offers an Index Analysis tool, allowing users to perform contrast analysis, single or multiple index analysis and time series analysis.

South Asia Open Archives

The South Asia Open Archives (SAOA), a subset of the South Asia Materials Project (SAMP), is a rich and growing collection of historical and contemporary primary sources in the arts, humanities and social sciences from and about South Asia. This collection has been developed through a collaborative initiative involving US research libraries and partners from South Asia. SAOA consists of 25 partner libraries, and is administered by the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) and presented openly online in partnership with JSTOR.

Yomidasu Rekishikan

Yomidas Rekishikan is an online database of 11 million articles covering every issue of The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper since its first issue in 1874. The database has four parts: the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Eras section contains high-quality scans of the articles as they appeared in the original print editions during these periods. The Heisei Era section presents articles in a convenient text view, and for articles since December 2008 there is a clipping view of the original article. The Japan News section catalogues articles which have appeared in our English publication. And finally, the Contemporary Who's Who allows searching by individuals to retrieve biographical information as well as articles which pertain to them. Articles are keyword indexed and can be searched full-text from 1986 to present.
